One of the key aims of the Engineering Postdoc Committee is to facilitate the training and career development of researchers in the Department and mentorship is an important area where significant differences can be made. The EDPC's runs a peer-to-peer mentoring scheme for postdocs, where postdocs receive mentoring training and are then paired up with other postdocs in the department.
Peer-to-Peer Mentoring
There are two steps to becoming a peer-to-peer mentor or mentee:
- Go to a peer-to-peer mentoring training session.
- Sign up to the EDPC Peer Mentoring Database.
After completing the course and successfully mentoring another postdoc for one year entitles you to a Certificate of Mentorship offered by the Department. Email our Mentoring Officer edpc-mentoring@eng.cam.ac.uk to get your certificate.
Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Training Sessions
There is a training session each term, organised by the Department's Postdoc committee (EDPC) and Sue Jackson. These sessions alternate between the Trumpington Site and West Cambridge. Mentoring is a useful skill to have, whatever your career trajectory, so do come along!

Training session are with a professional trainer who has run mentoring training sessions for us and for other Departments in the University for a number of years. Feedback has been excellent, these sessions are very worthwhile. Please see the Training Slides for more information.
This training is an essential part of the peer-to-peer mentoring scheme. Although not compulsory, if you take part in this training and continue to provide peer-to-peer mentoring for a mentee assigned to you, over one year, you will be eligible for the Certificate in Mentorship, awarded by the Department.
